Yann’s Heath
For a long time, we were working under the hope that Yann would be able to return. Coming to terms with the fact that this is no longer realistic in the near future has taken a great deal, both personally and professionally. His absence has had a significant impact on my workload, momentum, and the company’s ability to deliver several ongoing projects. Looking back, that uncertainty slowed progress while I adjusted plans around a very difficult situation.
Yann’s continued absence has placed considerable strain on both myself and the business, particularly around outstanding commitments and timelines. While none of this is within his control, the practical impact on operations has been real and significant.
It is now clear that his recovery will not progress in the near term. Because of this, we will need to make some difficult decisions about outstanding courses and determine which can be brought to completion in a meaningful and sustainable way.
Behind the scenes, I have been building a stronger support team, exploring potential new instructors, and continuing to work closely with all of you who form this community.
There are two main areas directly affected by this:
Godot 4 Everyone
This Course Collection is roughly 50 percent complete. I am now working with another instructor to assess whether they can take the Collection forward. We are currently in the early stages of recording and reviewing progress.
Our Action RPG
This is a large and ambitious project. I have been focusing on producing the Blender assets and planning the learning journey for each module. Without Yann available to discuss requirements and coordinate the Godot side, this has naturally introduced challenges. The Godot portion of the project is currently paused, with no progress being made at present.
What’s Next?
Some of you will have noticed that I have released my own Godot courses recently. This is not without purpose. I’ve always enjoyed game development and asset creation, but creating the Asteroids in Godot 4 course has genuinely reignited that part of my creative drive. I’m not saying I will necessarily take on the Godot portion of the Action RPG myself, but this process has shown me that I’m now in a position to begin prototyping and developing assets in a more structured way.
At this stage, I cannot give fixed timescales. However, I want to reassure everyone who has purchased Godot 4 Everyone, as well as all ARPG backers, that plans are being put in place to ensure both projects are completed to the level of quality you expect from Canopy Games.
I want to thank everyone for your patience, understanding, and support during what has been a difficult period. Your positivity and encouragement have made a real difference, and I remain fully committed to producing the courses and content that reflect the care, standards, and quality at the heart of Canopy Games.
I will keep everyone periodically updated on Yann. We still meet in person and virtually every week.
I am currently in a reorganisation stage and will release clear timescales for my focus areas in due course.
Mike
